Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
